What's New: Nationally Ranked Cancer Care for Patients in the East Bay

UCSF Health and John Muir Health are developing a network of cancer care centers designed to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer patients throughout the East Bay. UCSF and John Muir Health are majority shareholders in Canopy Health, which was founded in 2015. You can gain access to Canopy Health's premier care network through CanopyCare, available during Open Enrollment.

UCSF Medical Center's nationally top-ranked cancer program was recognized by US News & World Report as the best cancer program in Northern California. John Muir Health is accredited as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Both programs deliver comprehensive care personalized to each patient and delivered with compassion.

Our multidisciplinary teams have vast experience treating cancer, including but not limited to those of the breast, gastrointestinal tract, head and neck, lung, thyroid and prostate, as well as uterine and ovarian cancers, and hematologic cancers. Through our cancer collaboration you'll have access to distinguished disease-specific treatment capabilities, expanded clinical trial enrollment and precision medicine offerings, close to home.

As a patient, you'll also find a range of support services and educational resources such as nurse navigators, genetic counselling and cancer nutrition. These help you and your loved ones manage your care and become active participants in the healing process.

Our cancer network began with the UCSF-John Muir Health Cancer Center in Berkeley, which opened in February 2020. In 2021, existing John Muir Health Cancer Centers in Walnut Creek, Concord and Pleasant Hill will also officially become part of the network.

Central to the network is the development of a world-class cancer outpatient center, opening in Walnut Creek in early 2024, which will offer comprehensive services. These include radiation oncology treatments, an infusion center, access to clinical trials, genetic counseling, nurse navigators, support services and additional diagnostic and treatment services in a patient centered environment.
